Food for Ramadan: Jigawa governor brings back suspended commissioner
The reinstatement of Aminu Kanta, the suspended Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, has been approved by the Jigawa State Government.
Confirming the development, Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture Sagir Musa Ahmed briefed reporters on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, which Governor Umar Namadi chaired.
According to DMANNY, the governor of Jigawa State appointed a committee to look into the claims of fund misappropriation for the Ramadan feeding program in Babura Local Government, leading to the suspension of the Commissioner for Commerce.
“The council has deliberated on the committee’s findings, which focused on why the Babura LGA feeding program’s menu quantity was executed differently than what the council approved,” Ahmed claims. The committee’s report made clear that the contractor’s poor decision was the cause of the Babura feeding program’s issue.
He clarified that the cost of feeding was lowered to 50% of the total daily cost for each feeding center because the committee discovered that the primary food vendor was allocating funds per ward rather than per center.
He said that additional committee findings showed that the underwhelming supervision of the exercise by the suspended commissioner was the reason the issue was not identified sooner.
According to Ahmed, the vendor’s remaining 50% of unspent funds were found and given back to the state government.
However, he said, the council recommended that the commissioner’s suspension be lifted, and the council members all agreed to allow the suspended commissioner to return to his position.
